Fishing Forecast

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 27th February 2012
Four seasons in a fortnight, our weather is certainly not boring! The forecast is looking good for the week mostly light winds with daytime temperatures up to double figures. The tides are dropping this week, the lowest being on Friday...ideal for the ‘point’, sea temperatures are ‘bouncing’ back, in the sixes heading towards seven degrees. The blow a couple of days ago helped bring in a few codling to the beach, reports just in show we also have a return of a few school bass. Dabs are still the main target.
Pirate springs and Littlestone
It looks like we have the school bass back on the beach, early days, but worth a go with a bit of worm. Lots of dabs, bluey bait at low water to find a thornback.
Tailor Road
With this mild weather its spring come early, ideal for the school bass on a rising tide as it hits the shingle on the tide up.
Back of the boats
Plenty of dabs and whiting at low water, plus we hope for a few bass.
Dungeness Ideal tides for the ‘point’ at low water, if you want to try ‘distance’ lead lifts are a must if you want to get your gear back, otherwise closer in for dabs and safety. Fish a rising tide (or all tide round) at the lookout tower down to behind the power stations, the usual species plus a few spring bass.
Dengemarsh & Galloways
The best chance for these venues should be next weekend as the tides start to build through dusk, better after a westerly blow, hopefully a few spring bass along with the normal winter species, best bait tipped lugworm.
Jurys Gap
With the better weather, fish the rising surf for an early spring bass.
Boat fishing
Weather this week is looking good, plenty of codling at Kerton Road for the dinghies, you could try the wrecks for an early Pollack, down the bay or ‘east roads’ for a spring thornback on ‘bluey’ tides get a bit late towards the end of the week, but ‘hey’ enjoy the weather.

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 20th February 2012
It feels like a return to autumn with the westerly winds, temperatures are bouncing back and with the forecast this week in double figures we could see sea temperatures getting higher. This should improve the fishing with more ‘colour’ in the water, dabs, whiting and rockling with the addition of seasonal flounder and we hope a few codling! Tides are building right up to Friday, decent sizes right through the weekend, with lunchtime high waters. Bait, a worm tipped with a bit of fish will be favourite...it’s looking good.

Pirate springs and Littlestone
It won’t be long before we ‘break out’ the bluey to try for an early thornback as well as bass. Try on the longer tides, casting from the sand and ‘walk’ it in.

Tailor Road
This venue is a local legend for spring bass, always worth a go if you have three hours spare over high water.

Back of the boats
The forecast is perfect for behind the boats up to the ‘ness’, good size tides, fish the rising tide you won’t need to cast miles, fish should be moving close in to find what food is washing about with the ‘coloured’ water.

Dungeness
The point through low water should fish, this is the best spot to try for a ‘spring’ codling, but it can be ‘snag city’ so use ‘lead lifts’ to cut tackle losses. Further down from the ‘walkway’ to the ‘lookout tower’ and behind the power stations you will have to find a weather (wind) window!

Dengemarsh & Galloways
Better conditions for these locations but it depends on how much wind we get fish from low water up, good tides, with good colour.

Jurys Gap
A great storm beach could be too open with this wind direction, but it won’t be long till we get report of bass starting to show.

Boat fishing
No reports from the wrecks yet but we still have codling at Kerton Road, the wind could be a problem for the smaller boats, the direction south westerly is great for ‘east roads’, the weekend is looking possible at the moment. Don’t listen to the national ‘doom and gloom’ forecasts; check out the local ones for Dungeness to get a better idea! Best bait...lug is working well; cocktailed with fish gives you a wider choice of species to go for.

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 13th February 2012
I said last week the temperatures had crashed to 6 degrees...well I just checked the Folkestone buoy and its reading 4.4 degrees! So fishing deep water will give you the best chance. This cold spell has been a challenge, but from Monday we do rise above freezing as high pressure on the west coast drags north to north west winds around from the milder west. Reports of dabs, whiting, rockling and the occasional codling trickle in. Tides are ‘cutting’ the smallest is on Thursday. Best chance on the ‘point’ (wind on your back) fishing through low water (late afternoon) baits, lugworm tipped with a bit of fish.
Pirate springs and Littlestone
With the freezing temperatures these venues are ideal for a ‘short’ session (2 up 1 down) try to pick the bigger tides with the wind blowing North West.
Tailor Road
Similar to the above but a bit to ‘open’ if the wind is blowing northerly.
Back of the boats
The wind from the North West if fine for this venue, shorter tides won’t do any harm as it exposes less sand to the cold temperatures. If we get the expected rise in temperatures and a bit more wind this should bring more fish to the beach.
Dungeness
A good forecast for the ‘point’ down to the ‘lookout Tower’ with more water movement and the wind from behind, hopefully to bring a few more codling in.
Dengemarsh & Galloways
These venues have been a bit of a disappointment this winter, so let’s see what happens but being shallow the cold hasn’t helped. Fish the rising tide with a worm cocktail, always worth a go.
Jurys Gap
Similar to above but the wind chill on this ‘open’ venue can be too much but the wind will be from behind.
Boat fishing
As I write this its freezing, but light wind at least means the dinghy’s can get out. They have a choice, pop up to Kerton Road and fish close in for a codling or ‘shoot’ out to the wrecks to say ‘hello’ to a few Pollack (you hope) or try a fish bait over open ground for a early thornback ray. It could be a bit ‘windy’ next week but the ‘charters’ should be OK.

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 6th February 2012
Come on down! The sea temperatures have ‘crashed’ I just checked and we are down to around six degrees! Until the fish adjust to the shock, it has an effect, so ‘deep’ water will be more productive. The best news we have some cracking tides next weekend. We are now heading into dab and rockling territory! Still codling like the cold weather don’t they?

Pirate springs and Littlestone
With the forecast of north easterly winds for the next week it won’t be easy, if you are really keen have a look next weekend on the bigger tides.

Tailor Road
Again you would be best to ‘check’ the weather next weekend on the spring tides.

Back of the boats
Evil winds all week (north easterly forecasted) check the weather for the weekend tides (8.1m.) around lunchtime, expect plenty of dabs.

Dungeness
Very cold in the north easterly winds but behind the power stations out of the wind it will feel warmer, It should be best on the ‘walkway’ (deep water, more stable sea temperatures), main targets, dabs and plenty of whiting, rockling etc. But I expect to have a few codling being reported as well. Best bait lugworm (fresh or frozen) tipped with razor fish, or give ragworm a go.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
Big tides next weekend with the wind on your back, this could work if the fish have adjusted to the new low water temperatures, these venues are worth a visit.

Jurys Gap
Similar to above but could be just too shallow (and cold)?

Boat Fishing
Codling still being caught (see reports) and some big whiting! If you don’t mind the freezing conditions, cuttle seems to be working well; the main problem for our coastline is the wind direction, north easterly. It won’t be long before we crack out the ‘blueys’ to search for a few thornback rays, just keep an eye on the weather, next weekend the tides are perfect.

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 30th January 2012
Well I said last week it would take a prolonged spell of cold weather to get the sea temperature below 7 degrees...well next week could be it! The one thing in our favour is that the tides are ‘neaps’. The forecast I have for next Saturday is -2 degrees at midday + wind-chill! This will make fresh bait very difficult, still the dabs love whatever you present them with! We should see a few more codling along with the dabs, whiting, flounder and dogfish, the fishing has been good, but next week will favour the brave...or those with good circulation.

Pirate springs and Littlestone
This is going to be a tough week for these venues with a north easterly wind freezing temperatures this won’t encourage the fish into the shallows.

Tailor Road
Same as above not a ‘happy’ wind for this venue, deeper water should fish better.

Back of the boats
Slightly deeper than the above venues, more depth as you get towards the ‘point’, this should improve the fishing; dabs are the main target at this time of year.

Dungeness
Easier tides for the point but the weather can be brutal, codling are the target at low water. More popular will be the ‘walkway to get some respite from the north easterly to easterly wind. The power stations make a great ‘windbreak’ all the way down to the ‘diamond’. The dabs should continue to put on weight, best bait lugworm or ragworm tipped with sprat or razor fish.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
Dengemarsh on the ‘neap’ tides should fish for dab, it’s a bit shallow at Galloways and the sudden drop in temperatures won’t help.

Jurys Gap
It will be same at this venue, roll on the bass season.

Boat Fishing

Plenty of codling have been reported as well as early bass, codling will be the main target, as well as early thornback but it will be tough conditions afloat! It won’t be long before our gaze turns towards the wrecks...just keep an ‘eye’ on the weather. Best bait for the codling will continue to be cuttle and lugworm...if you can get past the doggies!

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 23rd January 2012

The weather continues to be erratic, for most the week westerly but with a hint of cold northerly’s next weekend. Sea temperatures are still around 8 to 9 degrees; it will need a sustained cold spell to get it below 8 degrees. Spring tides all week peaking on Thursday, hopefully with the westerly’s it should bring a few more codling to the beach. Otherwise you won’t be alone with the ravenous whiting! We hope more and bigger dabs seeing that we have the ‘Dab World Championship’ on the 29th (booking in at the Pilot from 7.30, contact Simon on 07802 415635 for more details).

Pirate springs and Littlestone
The first part of the week big tides and westerly winds is ideal for these venues, you have the choice late morning high water or after dark late evening, all winter species could turn up.

Tailor Road
With behind ‘the boats’ being so packed this is ideal for the three up one down, to get some space.

Back of the boats
With this weather it will be busy; mostly whiting on the rising tide and hopefully ‘dab ally’ next weekend; with the forecast and ‘decent’ tides we are hoping for a few codling.

Dungeness
A bit tough on the ‘point’ definitely fish ‘the drop’ through low water, depending on the wind strength, the ‘walkway’ and behind the power station could be too much. Next weekend if the wind backs northerly from the ‘point’ to the ‘diamond’ will be great.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
As above you might have to wait to the weekend to be able stand up! Dengemarsh is famous for its dab fishing but this year Galloways has been a bit slow.

Jurys Gap
Nice tides...foul weather but next weekend if we get light winds from the north it could fish on the rising tide to an hour after high water.

Boat Fishing
The cod and codling keep coming, mostly smaller fish, up to double figures; most with ripe roes, but not all. More Thornback being reported and it won’t be long till we try out the wrecks. Not ideal weather too much wind, but looking good for next weekend with high water around 2p.m....this could be your last ‘good’ hit at the cod for this winter, so break out the ‘cuttle’.

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 16th January 2012

Yes I know we have had a cold ‘snap’ but the sea temperatures are still 9 degrees, in other words the same as last week and the week before that! The seasons rolls on with more flounders being reported, more dabs, codling up to double figures (late spawners) and loads of whiting (as usual) and of course rockling. But from Tuesday the weather forecast is back to a westerly ‘blows’ and rising temperatures! Best bait continues to be lugworm tipped with cuttle or squid or try ‘seasonal’ sprat... Most codling are taking live whiting! Tides for the week are ‘cutting’ smallest tides Wednesday & Thursday.

Pirate springs and Littlestone
If the weather forecast is correct from Wednesday these east facing venues will be ideal on a rising tide for a short session. All winter species should be around.

Tailor Road
Easier than above in one way, no groynes, the classic shallow storm beach, underrated.

Back of the boats
Fishing well for flatties, the forecast is perfect from Wednesday till the end of the week. We still have a lot of ‘lost’ tackle out there, so be careful use ‘lead lifts’.

Dungeness
The forecast is ideal for the point, the westerly wind will ‘pump’ food on the long shore drift around the ‘point’, it could be (depending on the strength of the wind) tough to fish the ‘walkway’ down to behind the power stations, but worth it for the quality of the fishing.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
Dengemarsh is famous for its dab fishing, Galloways, tides a bit short but it is getting deeper with new gullies forming, worth a go on the rising tide.

Jurys Gap
A bit exposed on this weather forecast but at least you will have plenty of space!

Boat Fishing

We are getting a bit on as far as big cod concerned...but they are still showing, the westerly forecast should put some ‘colour’ back into the water and hopefully get the cod off the sprats! Tides are a bit short and possibly to much ‘wind’ for the dinghies. Baits cuttle and lug still favourite!

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 9th January 2012
Confused...I bet the fish are, I just checked the sea temperature for today, and it’s still around 9 degrees! With the westerly airflow all week I can’t see it dropping. Calm weather is forecasted all next week (westerly) with good tides, reports of shoals of sprats moving in. Ideal dab conditions with the odd codling thrown in, loads of whiting (all year round)! Flounder and dogfish as well, try lug tipped with sprat the ideal dab combo.

Pirate springs and Littlestone Lovely tides for these venues, late morning to lunchtime high waters, ideal for a three up one down session.

Tailor Road
Same as above, easy fishing, anything could show up.

Back of the boats
Great tides fishing from low water up, better for flatties as the water clears, dabs should continue to improve, best bait should lug with sprat tip or razor fish.

Dungeness
As conditions get better for the angler it gets tougher for the fish, the point should come into its own fishing on a falling tide. Target an odd codling at range. The walkway, coastguard lookout tower the same but behind the power stations down to the diamond try it on the rising tide, dabs are the main target with the odd surprise.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
Not fishing well but these tides should be a big help, Dengemarsh for dabs and hopefully the occasional codling.

Jurys Gap
Again good tides try lugworm on a rising tide and see what takes.

Boat Fishing

Fishing has been tough with the wind last week, rough conditions, Now forecast calm conditions for next week ideal for the dinghies, best chance ‘top of the bank’ at Kerton Road for a few codling. Still time for a really big fish! Some monster whiting showing as well, top bait cuttlefish!

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 2nd January 2012
Happy New Year, well as we kick off 2012 the weather is still weird; the sea temperature is still a ridiculous 10 degrees. The run of westerly winds continue with a big ‘blow’ forecasted for Tuesday. With all species possible, dabs and codling being the main targets, shorts tides all week, deep water off the ‘point’ is favourite, in the ‘blows’ you may have to ‘hide’ behind the boats, enjoy the weather who knows what we will get next!

Pirate springs and Littlestone
In the south westerly gales these venues can be a ‘life saver’ with the wind on your back short tides are not ideal but the fish don’t know that!

Tailor Road
As above a bit of a hideaway, we could well have a few bass about if we get some surf.

Back of the boats
It has been a bit disappointing over the last week being so busy, heaven knows how much bait was hurled out to sea! Some nice dabs being reported, this should get better over the next week. After the blow we hope to see more codling and small bass.

Dungeness
The ‘point’ is ideal with the small tides fishing through low water for a cod, after Tuesdays ‘blow’ we should see some ‘belting’ surf washing up towards the point, if you can handle the side wind you should have a chance from the ‘boards’ to behind the power stations. Big hooks with a bait, cuttle is still favourite with so many whiting around. The classic flapper or boom rig with a 2 to size 2/0 hook to go dab fishing, bait, the local favourite lug tipped with a bit of sprat to tempt the obliging dab...nothing tastes better!

Dengemarsh & Galloways
Been a bit disappointing with whiting being a pest, with more dabs showing it should get better. Let’s hope after a ‘blow’ we get more codling as well.

Jurys Gap
Not at its best on the short tides but at least you can get away from the crowds.

Boat Fishing
Have the big fish gone off to spawn; I don’t think so yet, with the weather being upside down I think we still have a great chance to get a ‘clunker’ this month. The tides this week are a bit flat but if we get some calmer weather after Tuesdays ‘blow’ we could have some fun!

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 26th December 2011
Well I hope you are having a ‘Merry Christmas’. Great tides for the beginning of the week, behind the boats should be good with the forecasted westerly airflow. Towards the weekend as the tides cut the ‘point’ comes into play. Sea temperatures are hopping around between 8 to 10 degrees with the warm air temperatures. More dabs being reported along with bigger whiting and a sprinkling of cod and codling.

Pirate springs and Littlestone
Should be good at the beginning of the week mainly whiting bur anything can turn up.

Tailor Road
Big tides up till Wednesday, two hours up one down for a quick Christmas fix.

Back of the boats
It has been very busy behind the boats to the ‘road’, don’t forget you can fish in front of the Lifeboat Station up to the boats to avoid the crowds! A rising tide, big bait and a big slice of luck...go for it!

Dungeness
Easier to fish the smaller tides next weekend through low water, next weekend perfect with afternoon high waters, the same at the ‘walkway’ and lookout tower, behind the power station down to the ‘diamond’ you can handle more flow. More dabs being reported over the last few days and these will get bigger as the winter proceeds to add to the mix.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
Cracking tides this Christmas weekend with a south westerly wind and a two metre surf fish from low water with a lug & shellfish cocktail...fingers crossed.

Jurys Gap
A bit breezy at the beginning of the week fish the tide up with lugworm should find a mixture of species.

Boat Fishing
The big fish keep coming and this week should continue the trend, Tuesday is looking good, big tides with a south westerly to westerly, big baits cuttle and big ‘dirty’ squid being favourite, nailed to the deck on the edge of the deep.

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 19th December 2011

Well season’s greetings to you all and let’s hope we celebrate the festive season with a big fish. The fishing has continued to be brilliant as we have had two more double figure bass caught at Dungeness. After the storm last Monday tons of shellfish have washed in (plus some weed) this has kept the fish preoccupied. More codling last week and better whiting, sea temperatures continue to drop hitting single figures for the first time. Combine this with the forecast of a fresh westerly airflow should keep the cod coming. Rising tides to the Christmas weekend, so have a very happy Christmas.

Pirate springs and Littlestone
Evening high tides with the wind on your back, ideal for a short session, if you find the ‘weed’ is bad at the point.

Tailor Road
As above when the point is packed another great short session venue, to get away from the crowds all the way up to the ‘lifeboat’.

Back of the boats
It carries on being packed at times, lots of lost tackle on the ‘road’ but continues to the most popular of venues, plenty of good fish about, big baits for bid fish, best bait ‘cuttle’ and lug till the whiting slow down.

Dungeness
The point is easier to fish on the ‘drop’, big bait Pennell rigs, live bait or cuttle or squid cocktails with lug. Clearer bottom from the ‘walkway’ down to the coastguard lookout tower, less lost tackle, with the westerly airflow and evening high waters behind the power station should fish well.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
Towards the Christmas week the tides should be good for these venues and with the ranges closed for Christmas, no problems with access, low water up with a nice surf should produce a few codling.

Jurys Gap
Another venue to ‘get away from the crowds, three hours up one down, all the ‘usual suspects’ can be caught.

Boat Fishing
With the cod slow to ‘roe up’ more big cod should be caught at Kerton Road, the weather forecast is OK for the charter boats but a bit to ‘lumpy’ as well as very early tides make it a bit tough for the smaller dinghy’s. Christmas weekend gives the best chance, big baits for that fish of a lifetime.

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 12th December 2011

Dungeness is really on song this week just gone, with cod of 21lb on the beach 31lb on the boats, a ‘stonking’ 19lb bass on the road! It should get even better this week with decent tides! Sea temperatures are still moving down, 11 degrees today. The forecast for the week is really exciting with big south westerly storms for Tuesday and Friday...wow!! This should really stir things up! The washed in shellfish is a cracking free bait, try a lug and razor cocktail bound to a 6/0 Pennell for your fish of a lifetime!

Pirate springs and Littlestone
With seven metre tides and stormy conditions these venues will be ideal on rising tides even in a south westerly force eight! All the usual species can be caught.

Tailor Road
The ideal 3 hour location for a short stint with a south westerly on your back...anything could turn up!

Back of the boats
Fantastic fishing...yes it’s crowded, yes you can lose tackle but this venue up to the ‘point’ is possibly the best big fish venue in the country! With the weather forecast we should be in for some churned up seas...bring it on!

Dungeness
With violent seas forecasted, you are going to have to pick your moments. But time it right and you could experience some fantastic fishing. Low tide on the point and the walkway but all tide round from the lookout tower to behind the power stations, the ‘diamond’ on the rise, watch out for the weed.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
These venues should pick up speed with the forecast, but again you will have to find a weather window. Brilliant on a rising tide with a shellfish cocktail.

Jurys Gap
With the forecast, this venue could be just too exposed to fish, look for a lull in the weather.

Boat Fishing
This is going to be a tough week on the boats with back to back storms. But if we can get out we should find some superb cod fishing with the fish just getting bigger and bigger! Top baits, cuttle squid & lug, just keep watching the weather the tides are perfect!

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 5th December2011

We have had at long last some perfect weather for fishing Dungeness, south westerly blows followed by lulls pushing food towards the beach and colouring up the water! Sea temperatures dropping fast, I have just checked 12.5 degrees...and the fish have responded with a series of stunning beach catches topped by a 17.5lb cod. With rising tides and westerly winds this week, afternoon low waters, the fishing should continue to get better and better.

Pirate springs and Littlestone
We should see more codling about on the night tides, plenty of whiting and early dabs. Easier to fish in a strong westerly (with the wind behind you) on a rising tide, say three up one down.

Tailor Road
Similar to the above, ideal for a short session away from the crowds.

Back of the boats
It has been a bit of a Zoo behind the boats and on the road, a bit ‘snaggy’ with all the lost tackle...but the fishing has been great and it should get better this week with growing tides. Try in front of the Lifeboat Station on the rising tide, not so crowded!

Dungeness
What a week, some great fishing! Things should get better with the forecast and the tides. The ‘hot’ bait has been cuttlefish to slow down the whiting! Lots of lost tackle is causing problems you need strong gear for the point. With so many anglers trying to get on the point they are spilling down to walkway and coastguard lookout tower. Behind the power station is worth a go, it’s a bit of a walk but the ‘Diamond’ should give you a bit of space.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
These venues should get better on the bigger tides, no reports of shellfish washing up yet in volume, we need a bit more wind. Fish from first flood on a rising tide; try big bait for a big fish!

Jurys Gap
Another ‘hideaway’ to get away from the crowds for a short session, all winter species could show up.

Boat Fishing
Fishing continues to be dominated by big cod, with the improvement in wind direction, water has been a bit slow to colour up. Charter boats continue to have the best of it with the variable conditions; it has been a bit ‘lumpy’ for the smaller boats. Killer bait continues to be ‘cuttle’ followed by lug. We should see a ‘thirty’ before long as the fish start to roe up. Early tides this week but it gets a bit easier towards the weekend let’s hope we find a few gaps in the wind!

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 28th November 2011

At last some south westerly winds, swinging southerly on Monday then westerly for the rest of the week! This should give our cod season a kick. Sea temperatures are on the way down (between 12.5 to 13.5 degrees) so we expect the reports of cod being caught on the beach to pick up. Top baits should be lug and razor fish, with so many whiting about lug with cuttle could prove a better bet. With the tides cutting, reaching the bottom by Saturday (6.0 metres), much easier to fish the point.

Pirate springs and Littlestone
Easier to fish in the strong westerly’s (wind on your back) the tides are getting smaller all week, all winter species could turn up.

Tailor Road
Again a bit of a ‘hideaway’, as I say in a westerly, if want to fish 3 up 1 down and avoid the crowds at Dungeness.

Back of the boats
This will getting very busy at weekends, as easier parking close to the beach (DAA). With more colour in the water (and more food washing up), we have our fingers crossed we hope to see some cracking cod that the boats have been catching turn up on the beach.

Dungeness
These shortening tides will make it easier to hold out on the point, just how far round we can fish into the wind depends on the strength, look out for gaps in the weather. As the westerlies continue we could see some weed breaking out, easier on a dropping tide on the point through low water...big baits, big hooks. Further down to the power stations should fish fine if we get gaps in the wind.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
We should see lots of fish food washing, razor, cockle etc. If you can ‘handle’ the conditions, big surf and we hope some bid fish!

Jurys Gap
I expect it will be too rough to fish until the wind eases, unless you life a lot of spume in your face at high water.

Boat Fishing
We have continued to have great fish caught by the charter & sport boats, up to 28lb, not so many though in the clear water, but with conditions getting better, more ‘dirty’ water, it will be the case of looking for ‘weather windows’ to dash out to target the cod. Charter boats should find improving conditions if the wind drops a bit. Top baits: cuttle, dirty squid and lug. With tides working back on the neaps mean later high waters so if you fancy a bit of night fishing?

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle

Fishing forecast for Dungeness and district for week commencing 21st November 2011
At last we are going to move into a south westerly air flow, and this time I think it really will happen, weird weather, sea temperatures still ‘hovering’ around 14 degrees! We have had fantastic bass fishing and now the cod reports are starting to build...all we need is a bit more ‘colour’ in the water! Live baiting with whiting on a ‘Pennel’ rig has been favourite. Fantastic catches on the ‘Dungeness’ beach boats, with many twenty pound plus cod being caught. So with the tide sequences ‘peaking’ on Saturday...

Pirate springs and Littlestone
All winter species are possible but with the current clear water after dark should give the best returns, best bait lugworm (as an all rounder) remember not to overcast the fish!

Tailor Road
As above, night time should be more productive, except if we have good daylight surf, then this should produce more bass on a rising tide.

Back of the boats
As I said last week, more bass in the surf and it’s the same this week, tides are growing, after dark works best if you are after a cod, don’t cast to far they are coming into the beach to find food.

Dungeness
It has been tough on the point with the clear water, so after dark at low water has been favourite...but with the promise of south westerly winds mid week linked with the rising tides, the ‘look out’ tower down to behind the power stations will be favourite on a rising tide, don’t cast to far and if we get a big blow watch out for the weed.

Dengemarsh & Galloways
With the weather forecast plus the tides suggest these venues could really produce (and you can avoid the crowds on the point) with a decent surf running keep an eye open for what is washing up on a rising tide, razor fish, queen cockle... they all make great bait!

Jurys Gap
Worth a go on the rise over high water, but the surf could be a bit too rugged, keep an eye on the weather.

Boat Fishing
Superb catches aboard the Dungeness ‘beach’ boats, this should continue, make no mistake the weather has been far from perfect with south easterly winds and clear water, but the fish have still been coming to the net! With a change in the wind direction it should get even better. The smaller boats should get afloat if the south westerly winds prevail, to join in the fun! Best baits have been small cuttle (use whole) and the large ‘dirty’ squid! But if we get more coloured water with fewer whiting then the usual calamari will work as well.

Tony Hills Seagull Fishing Tackle
