Rig of The Week

Fixed Single Clipped

The traditional Cod Rig, very simple to fish at long range with a big bait.

Ideal for Dungeness, used with a grapple/breakout lead, the fish takes the bait and hooks itself against the lead. A big fish pulls the lead out and gives the classic slack line bite.

Build:

I use a sixty pound body with a forty pound snood ( I use black amnesia) along with a quality 4/0 hook, a viking pattern. I like Sakuma Phantom which is a good strong hook.

Clip down with a Breakaway bait shield or the new"Imps", crimp flat being careful not to damage the main body.

Tactics:

A large black lug or two thread up the snood tipped with a Razorfish (these get washed up after a storm).

Fished on the point at low water on the "back end" of a good South Westerly blow.
